As you get older and approach menopause, you may notice changes in your mood, sleep pattern, menstrual cycles, and/or other physical changes, such as hot flashes (Vasomotor Symptoms - VMS) or vaginal dryness or discomfort with intercourse (Genitourinary Symptoms of Menopause – GUSM). During this normal transition, which can last on average from 2 to 10 years, there are waxing and waning hormone levels, similar to puberty. Although not pathologic (meaning, bad for your health), the associated changes can be quite bothersome to most women. The good news is these symptoms, if desired, can be managed successfully with counseling, medical therapy (hormonal and non-hormonal), or a combination of both.
Menopause is the stage of a woman’s life when her ovaries stop releasing eggs and she goes one year without a menstrual cycle (not due to other reasons, such as surgery). It is a natural part of life, though some women may experience disruptive symptoms that can affect personal relationships, self-confidence, or both. Because every woman experiences menopause differently, we provide customized menopausal education, counseling, and management therapy to help you achieve understanding and pursue medical therapies as needed to ensure your menopausal years are as good as your reproductive ones.
We provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for postmenopausal bleeding, which is light (spotting) or heavy vaginal bleeding that appears after at least one year or more from your last period. There are many possible sources or causes of vaginal bleeding, such as vaginal dryness, endometrial polyps (benign growths in the uterine lining), or sometimes uterine or cervical cancer. There are many available treatments depending on the diagnosed cause for this condition, which include antibiotics, hormone therapy, and/or surgery. After evaluation, we will discuss the appropriate treatment option for you moving forward.
Osteoporosis is a serious health condition where there is a substantial decline in the density of your bones. This is a major health problem and can be avoided by employing preventative strategies such as counseling, lifestyle interventions (weight bearing exercise, activities to maintain balance, etc.) and replacement of dietary deficiencies. Osteoporosis greatly increases an individual’s risk of suffering a severe broken bone or fracture, which often is associated with long-term physical disability or even death. Fortunately, these poor outcomes can be avoided with early diagnosis and timely management.
