Our practice treats all types of menstrual cycle abnormalities, including prolonged or heavy bleeding with your cycle, bleeding in between periods, or bleeding after sex (post-coital bleeding). We can also discuss strategies to suppress your menstrual cycle (skip periods) for both medical and elective purposes.
Many women suffer from dysmenorrhea, which is a condition that is characterized by intense and persistent menstrual cramps. This condition may be caused by the usual contractions of the uterus during menstruation, or it may be a symptom of a disorder or infection in the reproductive system. The recommended treatment will be determined based on the diagnosed cause of your menstrual cramps. After evaluation and counseling, we will manage your condition accordingly.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common condition that has been experienced by most menstruating women at some time in their lives. The most common signs of PMS include tender or swollen breasts, fatigue, specific food cravings, mood swings, and general irritability. This condition can be successfully managed with medications that include hormonal contraceptives, diuretics, antidepressants, and/over anti-inflammatory medications.
This disorder is a more intense and serious form of premenstrual syndrome. Unlike PMS, PMDD is a chronic medical condition with more disruptive symptoms that require medical treatment for successful management and long-term relief.
A fairly common disorder that affects many women. The main characteristic of this condition is either absence or “skipping” of menstrual cycles (less than 6 per year). It is often times associated with the formation of multiple follicles or “cysts” on one or both ovaries. While symptoms will vary among sufferers, most patients report experiencing irregular menstrual periods, acne, excessive facial, chest, or back hair growth, pelvic pain, and difficulties with fertility. While there is no cure for PCOS, it can be successfully treated and managed. Initial diagnosis is important to reduce risk of other medical problems that are associated with this condition, such as diabetes, endometrial cancer, and cardiovascular events (heart attacks and strokes). Treatment typically includes a combination of lifestyle adjustments such as regular exercise and weight loss (if not normal weight) and medications.
A condition where the lining of the uterus (endometrial tissue) grows outside of the uterus, typically on other pelvic structures such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, large bowel, or the lining of the pelvis (peritoneum). This can be a debilitatingly condition which can affect your daily activities and your ability to achieve pregnancy. We offer a variety of treatment options for endometriosis, such as hormonal and non-hormonal medical therapies and surgery.
Sometimes, fluid filled spaces called cysts will develop on the surface or inside the ovary. Most of the time, these cysts will disappear on their own without causing any issues. However, larger cysts may require treatment because of the complications they can cause, such as pelvic or abdominal pain, bloating, ovarian torsion (blockage of the blood supply to the ovary), and bleeding. Treatment and management of this condition depends on the type of cyst(s), but includes close follow-up, hormonal or non-hormonal medications, and/or surgical intervention.
Uterine fibroids are growths in the uterus that are generally harmless, as long as they remain small and cause no symptoms. However, some fibroids may require medical attention and treatment because of their size, location, and/or the severity of symptoms they cause such as: prolonged or heavy menstrual periods, more frequent than usual urination, pain or pressure in the pelvic region, difficulties in emptying the bladder, constipation, painful intercourse, and back or leg pain. We offer many treatments options, including hormonal and non-hormonal medical therapies and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
